Through our long standing connection with the owner of the company that supplies our carved soapstone
we wanted to donate some money to a project that would benefit the whole community.
We have, therefore, donated money directly to a well digging project which will benefit people
in the local area, including the soapstone carvers and their families.
As well as this longer term project, we also made an emergency donation to the
business in early 2008 which allowed them to resettle several families who were
at risk of violence following disputed elections in the country. They were able to
transport several families away from the danger and resettle them in safe areas.
Following the upheaval, our donation also allowed for grants to be made to several people
who were then able to set up small businesses. They were able to start earning a living
for themselves and their families following this national crisis.
